UK: Numismatic Rarity Went on Auction
A rare note of Ј1,000,000 of 1948 went on auction in London. The banknote marked N 000008 issued in the United Kingdom after the World War II in the framework of the Marshall Plan (European Recovery Program) was sold for Ј78,300 ($141,000). In total nine such banknotes were printed for operations during the six weeks of issue by the Ministry of Finance of Great Britain and the Department of the Treasury of the USA.

Commemorative 10-Zloty Note
On November 3, 2008, the National Bank of Poland introduced a new 10-Zloty note to commemorate the 90th anniversary of regaining independence. 80,000 notes were packaged in folders and sold for PLN15. The note was engraved by Maciej Kopeck.

New Turkmenian Manat Are Ready to Circulate
On 11 October 2008 the new Turkmenian national currency drafts to be introduced into circulation in 2009, were adopted by President Gurbanguly Berdy-mukhamedov. The drafts of the new banknotes were prepared by De La Rue, that has been cooperating with Turkmenia in issuing national currency from the first days of its independence.

Muammar Al-Gaddafi Featured on New 50-Dinar Note
New banknotes appeared in circulation in Libya. The Central Bank of Libya introduced into circulation modified banknotes of 2002 denominated 1, 5, 10 and 20 dinar with the new year of issue (2008) and new signature of Farhat O Bengdara.

NEPAL: New Banknote Series 2008
The Nepal Central Bank introduced into circulation banknotes of the new series in the denominations of 10, 50 and 100 Rupees without the portrait of King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah.

INDONESIA: Production of New Banknotes and Coins Postponed
Bank Indonesia has postponed the printing of Rp.2.000 banknotes and delayed plans to transform Rp.1.000 banknotes into coins. These changes in the country's currency circulation were previously scheduled for implementation as early as in summer 2008. Now, due to technical problems in the production process such as acquiring the supply of paper and necessary equipment they were postponed.

Demand for Commemorative and Investment Coins in Sharp Rise
Scared with the financial market crises, people now prefer to invest free funds into precious metals coins.
According to Sberbank (Savings Bank of the Russian Federation) the first wave of mass demand for the coins arrived in early 2008. The second wave came in June, even before the world financial crises broke out. The rate of rising of the public interest in gold coins is impressive. Bankers estimate that during the three quarters of 2008 people bought four times more coins than in the entire 2007.

Update on Banknote Series 2009 of the Republic of Turkey
Durmuz Yilmaz, governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, presented the officially adopted design of new banknotes and coins in Ankara. The new banknote line will include six denominations: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 liras. The face of all banknotes will depict a portrait of the first President of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ata-turk. The back of the banknotes will feature portraits of outstanding Turkish personas.
