New 500 Tai Baht
13.06.2014On 7 May 2014, Ms. Tonguray Limpiti, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Thailand, unveiled a redesigned 500 Baht which was later issued already on 12 May. Its palette (purple) and size remained unchanged. The new 500 Baht will circulate in parallel with previous banknote series.
The note is enhanced with several new security features facilitating its identification by BCM/BSMs and the public including the visually impaired.
The OVI on national Thai ornament (the lower left corner) changes its color from gold to green when tilted, while the latent denomination image visualizes.
The watermark is a portrait of King Rama IX and a denomination electrotype. The hologram strip on the right front side contains the royal emblem and denomination "500" image changing to Thai digits when titled. Also, the reverse side has an embedded "windowed" OVI security thread with a dynamic effect, changing its color from gold to green. The denomination image in Arabic and Thai digits is vertically applied with iridescent inks.
The note also contains 3 tactile marks as flowers combining into the letter "F" of the Braille alphabet, symbolizing the note's denomination (Five Hundred - 500) and felt by touch.
