New 500 Peso

13.06.2014

On 8 May, 2014, the 500 Peso banknote of the E series, printed by Oberthur Technologies, entered circulation. Its primary colors are cyan, magenta, red, and green. The face features the state emblem, laurel, an open book, a map of Uruguay (as SPARK®), and a portrait of A. Vásquez Acevedo, a famous teacher. The back also features laurel and an open book with an image of Republican University in Montevideo. The see-through register forms the rising sun and denomination. The multitone watermark contains a portrait of Jose Gervaiso Artigas (1764-1850), the country's national hero, and an electrotype as denomination digits and letters.
