Goznak’s smartphone app to authenticate banknotes

Today we have adjusted the algorithms to analyze particular banknotes in the 1000 denomination of 2010 and two versions of 5000-rubles banknotes in circulation. The authentication is carried out on the verso of a banknote. When the application is launched, the camera is activated and the screen shows camera’s images, with the received images being identified. Then a window is displayed on the smartphone’s screen, containing information on the banknote denomination and its modifications, as well as the authentication results. If the criteria are at middle level, a warning message says that the classification is uncertain and an additional verification should be done. To facilitate the verification and to make the user more confident about its results, the app contains additional information with the description of the most easily controlled features on the banknote’s front side.

The test is held for authentic banknotes in circulation, as well as for counterfeits, withdrawn from circulation, and for test imitations, produced on various duplicating equipment (ink-jet and laser printers).
